Umpire
Umpires are crucial for any baseball program to operate. There is no point to beat around the bush, umpiring is one of the most thankless positions within any baseball program. However, umpires are what provide the players and their families with a true baseball game experience. WPLL offers the opportunity for umpires to be volunteer or umpires to become a WPLL staff (reimbursed) umpire. WPLL does have a junior umpire program as well for umpires between the ages of 13 -
18
.
The WPLL reimbursement program reimburses staff umpires $50 and junior staff umpires $35 per game.
In order to be a WPLL staff umpire a prospective umpire must attend an umpire clinic at West Pasco or District 12. Prior to any season no less than 1 umpire clinic is offered. These clinics usually take between 60 - 90 minutes.
At these clinics the basics of umpiring are covered. Then a
fter attending an umpire clinic a prospective staff umpire will be evaluated by a staff umpire for approximately 3 games. During these games the prospective umpire will receive feedback on their performance and input on their situational awareness. The purpose is to ensure the prospective umpire is given a deeper understanding of the role of an umpire.
Please follow our social media page on Facebook
@WestPascoLittleLeague
on the events page for more information about our umpire clinics as each season nears.
Unfortunately, at times, a team or member of the crowd can disagree with a call but the ability of an umpire(s) to manage the on field action makes all the difference for the players and their families at the ballpark.
As a staff umpire you will select shifts that you have the availability to cover. All umpires 18 years of age and older must submit, at no cost, a
noncredit background check.
Ensuring you, as an umpire or any volunteer for WPLL, conduct yourself with the highest ethics is paramount.
WPLL also welcomes community members who choose to be an umpire even if they do not have a child on a West Pasco Little League roster.
If you would like to be make the ball game complete for players and their families register today as an umpire!
