Head Coach

Head Coach

A head coach is the manager of their respective team, within the WPLL program.  The head coach sets team practices around his/her availability, field space permitting.  The team's game schedule is written around the known commitments of the head coach at the start of a season.  These efforts are made to ensure WPLL head coaches are able to commit comfortably to the children and families of their team.

WPLL offers the resources for every head coach to be successful.  Resources include but are not limited to: a coaching coordinator (a resource to speak to about any matters involving the team), practice/game baseballs, a team equipment bag, and more.

WPLL often seeks more dads/moms to become a first time head coach while in the younger divisions.  In doing so, like players, head coaches develop in their role.  Most head coaches begin coaching in the tee ball or rookie division but at times some will begin at an older age group.

Each season head coaches are selected by the league president and then must be approved by the WPLL Board of Directors, as does any league volunteer.  This process is to ensure head coaches, or any volunteer for WPLL, conduct themselves as stewards of the core values at WPLL.  The knowledge of the game and/or making the experience for the players and families rewarding and enjoyable factor into head coaches returning season after season.  It is about player development on and off the field at WPLL.  Building a solid baseball foundation with their players and their families comes with that process.

If you would like to be considered for a head coach role please click this role when completing your child's registration.  You can sign up to be a head coach when a program shows available!  Any volunteer new to the WPLL program seeking to become a head coach are expected to join the league president on a short phone call.  This "interview" is to help ensure any questions are answered by WPLL prior to you taking on the role while also communicating the standards and expectations of being a head coach at WPLL.  The interview typically takes no more than 15 minutes.
All league volunteers on the field of play must submit, at no cost to our volunteers, a non credit background check and per 2025 Florida law a Level 2 Background Check.

The rewards of being a head coach far exceed what many expect!  A head coach has a front row seat to seeing players grow and develop not only as players but more importantly as individual citizens.  Come make that difference in the lives of the youth and their families in West Pasco!!
