Assistant Coaches are selected by the teams head coach, with the support and approval of the WPLL board of directors.  Having quality assistant coaches are crucial for any head coach.  There is a limit to the number of assistant coaches in the dugout or on the field of play for each division.  However, some assistant coaches may help only during team practices.  

Often a volunteer will register to be an assistant coach instead of a head coach because they do not believe they are qualified.  More often than not this is not the case as WPLL has a support system of coaching coordinators and peers to aid any new head coach.  If you have an interest in the head coach role WPLL encourages you to register for the head coach role.  Once registered, if needed, reach out to the league president via email or message us via Facebook to discuss the role further.    

Assistant coaches, like our head coaches represent the WPLL program on and off the field.  Please ensure you, as an assistant coach or any volunteer for WPLL, conduct yourself with the highest levels of ethics.  The more knowledge of the game of baseball is welcomed but making the experience for the players rewarding and enjoyable factor into a head coach selecting their assistant coaches.  It is not about winning!  It is about player development and building a solid baseball foundation for the players along with cultivating a relationship with the families of the players on your roster.  A noncredit background check is required for all league volunteers.
